Small Town America is making an international appearence. Moro City Oregon is a small community of roughly 324 people and is a census designated place established in 1899 (reference).
Sherman County Oregon, The Scene: Down-to-earth, friendly, hard-working people live in the six small communities, each approximately nine miles apart, and on outlying farms. The population is equally distributed, town and country. Many are descendents of early homesteaders and have strong ties to the land.
Six small towns - Biggs, Rufus, Wasco, Moro, Grass Valley and Kent - Provide basic services for the 1,750 residents of the county. The county seat is Moro...The economy is based on wheat, barley, cattle and tourism.
The open rolling hills and steep narrow canyons of the county's 831 square miles, approximately 20 miles wide and 40 miles long, range in elevation from 185 feet on the Columbian River to 3,600 feet on the plateau in the south (reference).
So How Can a County with only 1,750 total residents, moreso a city of 324 people challenge corporate America that has engrained themselves within the very fabrics of our local municipalities and are establishing agendas i.e. laws, philosophy and persuasion, on the very people who oppose them... Who are "they" in this case? "We the people" create the government and take jobs like mayors and so forth, right?
WELL, THIS IS HOW THE COUNTY RESIDENTS OF SHERMAN OREGON AND THE PEOPLE OF MORO ARE SETTING AN EXAMPLE OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND PUBLIC LAW DEBATE:
Capitolpress.com reports that, "Azure Farms submits a tentative weed management plan" (see link for complete article dated 5-17-2017).
What does it say, what is its meaning? In a one liner, it simply says that Azure Farms submitted an alternative plan that both sides of the issue agree on and that public debate should be heard! WIN, BIG WIN!
It says, since March 2nd, 2017 of this year that the debate of noxious weed management and how to treat or deal with them has been a local concern by fellow land owners i.e. the neighbors, you know just like one would think, your friends. Appearently somehow the noxious weed board decided that they had some type of right to intervene and to propose the chemical spraying of herbacides and pesticides (Monsanto Products) on private land, moreso in this case an 18 year old established organic food producing farm. And so here we are?
WE CAN ALL GET ALONG AND BE HEARD...
On May 17, 2017 the Sherman, "County Court met to discuss the issue... The meeting is moved from the courthouse to the high school gym, the only place large enough for the anticipated crowd" (reference).
Environmental stewardship is the essence to living in harmony with nature. To produce our crops, have clean drinking water, wild animals and free open spaces... ALL 1,750 RESIDENTS OF SHERMAN COUNTY OREGON (man, woman, child, old and young, sick, healthy and the absebtee voters)... "We the People" applaude you for taking a stand for your land rights, for your ways of educating us on Organic Farming AND FOR FITTING INTO ONE SMALL-TOWN HIGHSCHOOL GYM AT THE SAME TIME!
Sherman County Oregon You are "WE THE PEOPLE" of AMERICA and May "God" Bless The USA, Your Families and Crops!
(Authors Note: Just imagine if the expected amount of people for this upcoming hearing were to volunteer some of this weekends time hand picking weeds, you know? Picked weeds the way great grandpa did just as he got home from school after walking 5 miles in the 5 foot deep snow. And, and backwords too! THE OLD FASHIONED WAY.
Would it not be an opportune time to show off sustainable organic farming without pesticides? Yeah, it's time.
Azure Farms is about 2000 acres? In a county of approximately 2000 on any given day.
Azure Farms can grow enough chemical free organic food for every person in this one county; authors opinion). That's something to be proud of.
